Live photo wall

A live photo wall for weddings and events

A live photo wall shows your guests’ photos, videos and messages on a big screen at the venue, seconds after they upload them. With Relivv, guests scan a QR code and upload from the phone browser, with no app and no account, and you open the wall by visiting a link on any laptop or smart TV connected to a screen. It is included on every plan, including Free.

What a live photo wall is

Think of it as a slideshow that fills itself. Instead of collecting photos after the event, the screen at the venue shows each new upload as it arrives: the speech someone filmed a minute ago, the dance floor from the back of the room, a note from a guest who could not catch you all evening.

It works for weddings, birthdays, parties and conferences alike. At a wedding it turns into a talking point during dinner and the evening party; at a conference it shows the room what is happening in the other sessions. Either way, every upload also lands in a shared album you can download afterwards.

What guests see

On their phone

  • They scan the QR code on a table card, a sign or the wall itself, and your event page opens in the browser.
  • The page appears in their phone’s language, from 19 supported languages.
  • If you turned on a welcome screen, they see your greeting first and can add their name.
  • They choose photos or videos from the camera roll, or write a short text post, and upload. No app, no password.
  • They can browse everything shared so far in the album, unless you have made it upload-only.

On the big screen

  • The newest photo or video large in the centre, over a soft blurred copy of itself so portrait and landscape shots both fill the screen.
  • Strips of earlier photos moving down the sides, so the screen never looks empty.
  • The guest’s name and caption under each item, if they added one.
  • Your QR code in a corner, so people who have not joined yet can scan it from their seats. You can drag it, change its size or hide it.
  • Text posts shown as cards, with videos playing muted until you turn the sound on.

How to set it up

There is nothing to install. You need a screen, a device with a web browser and an internet connection at the venue.

  1. 1

    Create your event

Sign up free, name the event and set the date. Your event gets its own album link and QR code.

  2. 2

    Print the QR code

Download the QR code in high resolution and put it on table cards, a welcome sign or the order of service. One code per table works better than one sign by the door.

  3. 3

    Connect a screen

Connect a laptop to a TV or projector with an HDMI cable, or use a smart TV’s built-in browser. A laptop is the most reliable choice.

  4. 4

    Open the wall link

In your dashboard, open the live wall. It has its own link in the form relivv.me/s/your-event, so you can also type it on the venue computer. Press Enter Full Screen.

  5. 5

    Do a test run

Before guests arrive, upload two or three photos from your own phone and check that they appear. Until five photos are in, the wall shows a small “warming up” hint that disappears on its own.

  6. 6

    Let it run

New uploads are pushed to the wall over a live connection. If the connection drops for a moment, the wall keeps checking for new photos every 20 seconds and catches up by itself.

Step-by-step guide: how to set up a live photo wall at your wedding

Wall settings by plan

Change these from the options on the wall itself or from your event settings. Changes reach the screen without reloading it.

Moderation options by plan

What you can do to keep the screen appropriate depends on the plan.

On every plan, including Free, you can hide or delete any upload from your dashboard, and it disappears from the wall and the album.

Plus also lets you choose which kinds of media guests may upload: photos, videos, text posts, or any combination.

Pro adds approval before publishing, so nothing reaches the wall until you or a helper approves it; an automatic content filter that detects adult, explicit, violent or suggestive photos; and co-moderators, people you invite who get their own link and PIN to approve uploads from their phones, without access to your account. You can remove a co-moderator at any time.

Tips for a wall that works on the night

Screen brightness

Venues are often darker than you expect in the evening and brighter than you expect at lunch. Check the screen at the time of day you will use it, and turn off any power-saving or eco mode that dims the picture.

Placement

Put the screen where people gather but do not have to stare at it: near the bar, beside the dance floor or at the end of the dinner tables. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from the projector’s path for the first dance.

Wi-Fi and mobile signal

The wall needs a steady connection, and so do your guests’ phones. Ask the venue for the guest Wi-Fi details and print them next to the QR code if mobile signal is weak. Connect the wall laptop by cable if you can.

Power and sleep

Plug the laptop in and switch off sleep and screen-saver settings so the wall does not go dark halfway through the evening.

Sound

Videos start muted. Turn the sound on only if the wall is connected to speakers and you want speeches to be heard; otherwise the music and the room are louder anyway.

Get the first photos in

Ask the MC, DJ or a friend to mention the QR code once, and upload a few photos yourself at the start. A wall that is already moving is the best invitation to join in.

Live photo wall questions

Do I need special hardware?

No. Any device with a modern web browser that you can connect to a screen will do, such as a laptop with an HDMI cable to a TV or projector, or a smart TV’s own browser. There is nothing to install.

Is the live wall included on the Free plan?

Yes. The live photo wall is included on every plan. The paid plans add more uploads, longer storage and extra wall settings such as display durations.

How quickly do photos appear?

As soon as an upload has been processed it is pushed to the wall over a live connection. If that connection drops, the wall checks for new photos every 20 seconds until it is back.

Can I stop inappropriate photos reaching the screen?

On every plan you can hide or delete an upload and it disappears from the wall. On Pro you can require approval before anything is shown, switch on an automatic content filter and invite co-moderators to approve from their phones.

Do videos play with sound?

Videos start muted. Use Turn Sound On in the wall controls if the device is connected to speakers and you want the sound to play.

Can I hide the QR code or guests’ names?

Yes, on every plan. You can hide the QR code, the side images and the captions from the wall options or your event settings.

Can I control how long each photo stays on screen?

On Plus and Pro you can set separate display times for photos, videos and text posts, or let each video play to the end. Free uses sensible default timings.
